The Free Mind

Sliding down from the beyond,

Plonk! Landed the soul into the pond,

And it slowly gained a bodily form.

He came into the world with a loud cry,

Wanting to walk and run, fall down, yet try,

With his days charted out and his hands held tight,

Blindly he followed, always willing to please.

Months became years,

And the mind grew restless,

A collar round his head,

And a leash that seemed endless,

Amazed at freedom, he jumped with glee,

At the fun thought of what freedom was to be.

Long journeys made the soul weary,

While the mind gulped up information, both fun and scary,

Yet tethered down by society, it longed for more,

For humans spoke, as of folk lore,

That once there were two roads in a wood,

But in front of him lay a big list of shoulds.

Do what you love, one said,

Love what you do, said the other,

The mind puzzled by this test,

Quit his work and sat to rest,

Perspective, my boy, that’s the key,

The difference between simple and complexity.

The mind looked around for the sage,

Who imparted wisdom beyond his age,

I’m not out there, I’m right in here,

The freedom you yearn is only crippled by fear.

A free mind is not a wanderer,

It is a wonderer ,

It is a gentle fighter,

A strong believer,

A fearless helper,

And an unwavering lover.

A free mind is a happy soul,

Never in want, always seeing the glass full.
